Cognac is produced only in a geographical area defined by the law of 1

may 1909. The area comprises 85 000 hectares of wines, which supply the Cognac worldwide. The
region covers the "departements" of the "Charentes" and "Charente-Maritime" and extends into the
"Deux-Sévres" and the "Dordogne". Only white grapes are grown (98 % are the variety Ungy Blanc)
Within the region are two major zone very different physically and geographically. The "fields"
or "Champagnes" and the "woods" are subdivised into six areas of productions or
vineyard :
==> The Grand Champagne - approximately 13 000 ha.
==> The Petite Champagne - approximately 16 000 ha.
==> The Borderies - approximately 4 000 ha.
==> The Fins Bois - approximately 35 000 ha.
==> The Bons Bois - approximately 14 000 ha.
==> The Bois Ordinaires - approximately 2 000 ha.

Each group of vineyards or "cru" has its own individual qualities, taste, aroma and potential for
ageing, what permits when it is combined to obtain of assembling harmonious.
